Sheffield Township Volunteer Fire Department to Hold Open House for Employment Opportunities

SHEFFIELD – Chief Shawn Alkire is pleased to announce that the Sheffield Township Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting an open house this weekend.  

WHEN:

Saturday, June 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

WHERE:

Sheffield Township Fire Station, 285 Market St., Dayton

WHAT:

This event will be open to the public and those interested in signing up to volunteer for the Department. Interested parties, including those with no firefighting experience, are encouraged to attend to talk with Department members, tour the station, and have an opportunity to interview for open positions. 

Residents who don’t have the necessary experience but are interested in a volunteer position will undergo about 30 to 40 hours of training offered by the Department. Schedule is flexible and there are no weekly or monthly requirements. If hired there will be a required annual 24 hours of training. 

Responsibilities:

  • Responding to fire and rescue calls
  • Helping with the upkeep of the trucks and station

Requirements:

  • High school diploma
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Able to pass a physical and respiratory test

All testing will be paid for by the Department.
